When the mountain hamlets of Crans and Montana merged
in the early 60s, it became the dream destination in
Switzerland. Located deep in the Rhone Valley, Crans-Montana
provides a typical European ambience. The resort, which
boasts of breathtaking views of the Matterhorn and Mont
Blanc, is quickly becoming a multi-season destination
resort comparable to Verbier or Chamonix (in France).
The winter season runs from December to April with
the busiest times clustered together in early January
and mid-February: these peak times are expensive as
you would pay a dear sum for ski passes and accommodation.
During the last week of March and the first week of
April you can take advantage of the late snow and last
minute deals on resort accommodation, since winter skiing
is finished across the board by mid-April – though
at altitudes above 2000 or 2500m the season extends
from November to May. Year-round summer skiing is possible
in a few resorts on glaciers at around 3000m.
In case you are wondering… there is much more
than skiing that one can do here. Crans-Montana provides
a niche for everyone; whether you’re a honeymooning
couple, a family on holiday… there is something
for everyone here.
Give the traditional European sport of curling a try.
If speed turns you on then check out the thrilling Toboggan
and Tubing Park. The resort town offers a range of activities
from scenic dogsled tours to paragliding in spring for
everyone who loves excitement and adventure.
A unique characteristic of Crans-Montana are the trails
for hiking; almost 30 kilometers (19 miles) of trails
are kept clear year round, and snowshoe rentals and
guided hikes are also available upon request.
For those who want a little cross-country action Crans-Montana
offers over 40 kilometers/25 miles of beautifully groomed
trails, as well as a speed loop. Equipment can be rented
at almost any ski shop. |
